Everyone loves a sparkling, white smile. However, in order to get the whitest smile possible, many people turn to chemical whitening, but this isn’t the only option for brighter teeth. With certain DIY alternatives, you can work to get the whitest smile of your life.
1. Baking Soda with Hydrogen Peroxide
The hydrogen peroxide and baking soda paste is one of the oldest remedies for DIY teeth whitening. To use this method, mix the hydrogen peroxide and baking soda into a paste. This paste can be used in place of standard toothpaste and applied with a tooth brush.
While this method is effective, you should use it sparingly. The paste is too abrasive to be used on a regular basis. Ideally, this method should be used three or five times within a three to six month period.
2. Strawberry Paste
Never heard of strawberry paste? This creative toothpaste alternative harnesses the malic acid in strawberries. This acid plays a prominent role in dissolving tea, red wine, and coffee stains.
To make this paste, mash up a few strawberries. Then, add in a teaspoon or two of baking soda.
3. Banana Rub
Bananas are rich in nutrients like manganese, magnesium, and potassium; all of which play a significant role in whitening teeth. To use this method, take a banana peel from a ripe banana and rub it along the inside of the teeth for a few minutes. This will allow all the minerals and nutrients inside the banana peel to rub off on your teeth.
4. Rinse with Apple Cider Vinegar
Creating a rinse of apple cider vinegar will help boost your toothpaste’s stain fighting abilities. The rinse should be made with three parts water and one part ACV. Combine the rinse with a natural toothpaste. Then, brush as you usually would.
5. Coconut Oil Paste
Oil-pulling is an all-natural trend that is taking the world of DIY oral care by storm. When enzymes in the saliva make contact with the fatty acids in coconut oil, an oxygen molecule is produced that helps to eliminate stains. While oil-pulling involves rinsing your mouth with oil, using coconut oil paste is a little easier for most people to stomach.
When creating a coconut oil paste, use one cup of heated coconut oil. Add in two teaspoons of baking soda and a few drops of spearmint essential oil. The spearmint is added in to improve the flavor, as well as to harness its antimicrobial benefits.
Your kitchen cabinets may already have everything you need for the perfect smile. Keep these five methods in mind as you try to whiten your teeth the natural way.
